Key highlights from the 2024 IFRS Foundation Conference in June 2024

The 2024 IFRS Foundation Conference was held in London on 24–25 June 2024 attended by over 400 delegates from 60 countries. The purpose of the conference was to showcase the latest developments in financial reporting and sustainability disclosure standards as well as insights from industry experts.
Keynote speakers of the conference were IASB Chair Andreas Barckow and ISSB Chair Emmanuel Faber. Chair Barckow addressed the challenges of complexity in the modern business environment and its effect on financial reporting. Chair Faber updated on the ISSB’s achievements from 2023 when standards were issued. Additionally, Carine Smith Ihenacho, Chief Governance and Compliance Officer at Norges Bank Investment Management, addressed the evolution of responsible investing and the role of the ISSB. She noted that harmonised and globally comparable standards are required to support investor decision-making.
Other topics of the conference included updates on the current projects and future priorities and discussed the connectivity between the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) is being achieved through a session led by Vice-Chairs Linda Mezon-Hutter and Sue Lloyd. Breakout sessions offered deep insights into key IASB projects, the adoption strategy for the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards and integrated reporting and the ISSB’s work plan.
