e-Invoicing

The introduction of e-Invoicing across Europe has gained considerable momentum in recent years due to its efficiency, cost effectiveness and alignment with digital transformation goals.

e-Invoicing, or electronic invoicing, is a commercial document that contains specific information on transactions. It allows the digital transmission, receipt and processing of invoices in a structured format, eliminating the need for traditional paper-based methods. 

There is currently a patchwork of invoicing models and requirements in Europe, giving rise to complexities and administrative burdens on businesses. The EU—through the VAT in the Digital Age or ViDA proposals—intends to standardise e-Invoicing requirements and make e-Invoicing the default standard throughout the bloc, accompanied by real-time reporting of cross-border transactions and data sharing among tax administrations. Although ViDA has not yet been adopted by the EU member states, individual countries are moving forward with their own plans to adopt e-Invoicing so it is vital that affected businesses stay on top of developments.
